Hydropower Planning and Licensing

Few firms can match our hydroelectric planning and licensing expertise.  Our managers have over 65 years of cumulative experience working with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) procedures and guidelines.  Close communication is maintained with FERC staff to stay current on changes to the procedures and to determine the best way for our clients to obtain their objectives.

Meridian Environmental's experience in hydroelectric planning and licensing have encompassed:

  •    licensing feasibility analyses,

  •    due diligence reviews and assistance in license transfers,

  •    strategic planning

  •    procurement of license amendments,

  •    licensing of small run-of-river projects,

  •    collaborative relicensing of large, mainstem river projects,

  •    application of the FERC’s Alternative Licensing Procedures

  •    preparation of Preliminary Draft Environmental Assessments (PDEA)

  •    preparation of Biological Assessments to initiate ESA Section 7 consultation

  •    completion of post licensing compliance studies, and,

  •    license compliance documentation and reporting.

Whatever the environment, we can assist with project strategy, identification of feasibility and baseline studies, agency negotiations, and license application and environmental assessment preparation.  Although no two projects are the same, the knowledge and experience of our licensing and regulatory staff allows us to assist our clients in moving through the process in an expeditious and cost effective manner.
